Senior engineering

senior headcount

I'm Jordan Brown. For 15 years I've built payments infrastructure, blockchain systems, and the kind of backend plumbing that either works at 3am or costs you money. Fractional engagements only. Shipping over meetings.

Clinical trial operations platform
Cenexel — ClinOps & DevOps
Fractional lead on CTS and a companion mobile app. Hardened a merchant onboarding CLI (API-only, bastion host rules in prod), directed offshore contributors, cleaned up inherited work from prior vendors.

Routesense — Fintech
Production Autoflix onboarding plus a dispute/chargeback data processor. Estuary CDC into S3 Parquet, DuckDB for analytical queries. Expanded into C-suite strategic calls after first shipped wins.

Token redemption without requiring user accounts. Sardine integration for KYT. Regulatory-adjacent fintech where the tolerance for "move fast and break things" is exactly zero.

Payments infrastructure — legacy
Mercury Payment Systems & others
Fifteen years in payments at the infrastructure layer. Over a billion in transactions processed across engagements. Settlement, reconciliation, the boring stuff that decides whether a fintech actually works.

Blockchain platform scale-up
Nerd United — VP of Engineering
Led a team of 7 engineers. Scaled a blockchain platform 10x through a combination of architectural simplification and removing the work that wasn't actually shipping anything.

how this works

Five steps. None of them are “circle back.”

  1. Discovery call
30 minutes. You describe what's broken or stuck. I tell you whether I'm actually the right person, or recommend someone who is.
  2. Written proposal
A short doc: scope, deliverables, rate, engagement length. No deck. No discovery phase you have to pay for. If we're aligned, we sign.
  3. Embed & ship
I join your Slack, your repos, your on-call where it makes sense. You get a senior engineer wired in, not an agency middleman.
  4. Async by default
Written-first. I'll jump on a call when it's the right tool. Most weeks that's one or two. The rest is code, PRs, and Loom.
  5. Exit cleanly
Engagements are time-boxed. By the end you have docs, a cleaner system, and the ability to run it without me. That's the whole point.

Let's talk about what's broken.

Quick email is best. Tell me what you're working on, what's stuck, and what a good outcome looks like. I read everything, I reply to most, and I'll tell you honestly if I'm not the right fit.
